What is NDIS?
The National Disability Insurance Scheme, also called NDIS, is Australia's national scheme established in 2013, providing needs-based support to all disabled people. It is the only national scheme globally aimed at empowering people with disabilities by providing them with the necessary services and support to achieve their goals and participate fully in society.
The NDIS aims to enhance the control and choice of people with disabilities over the types of services and support they need, when and how they receive them. The scheme provides funding directly to individuals, giving them the flexibility to choose services and support that best align with their needs. The NDIS is anticipated to support over 500,000 Australians with disabilities, including almost 80,000 children with developmental delays.
The NDIS is a major social reform that has the potential to generate economic improvements by creating new business and employment opportunities. The initiative operates on the principle of early intervention, ensuring that individuals with disabilities receive the necessary support as early as possible to achieve optimal outcomes. The NDIS offers various supports and services, including assistance with daily living, community participation, employment, education, health, and well-being.
The NDIS is a crucial initiative that aims to improve the life of people with disabilities in Australia. It gives them greater control and choice over the services and support they receive, allowing them to participate fully in society.
Funds allocation for NDIS Support
The NDIS offers people with disabilities throughout Australia a range of support and services. Its purpose is to empower people with disabilities by providing them greater control and choice over the support and services they receive to achieve their goals and participate in their communities. The NDIS provides funding for different types of support, such as:
- Daily living supports: The NDIS provides funding for support with daily tasks such as personal care, household tasks, meal preparation, and shopping.
- Community participation: The NDIS provides funding for support to participate in community activities, such as social outings, sports and recreation, and education and training.
- Employment supports: The NDIS provides funding to find and maintain employment, such as job coaching, training, and modifications to the workplace or equipment.
- Health and well-being: The NDIS provides funding for support to maintain physical and mental health, such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and counselling.
- Assistive technology: The NDIS provides funding for assistive technology, such as mobility aids, communication devices, and home modifications.
- Support coordination: The NDIS provides funding for support coordination services to help people with disabilities navigate the NDIS system, make decisions, and find and coordinate services.
The NDIS funding is individualised and based on the specific needs and goals of each person with a disability. The NDIS works with each participant to develop an individualised plan that outlines the supports and services that will be funded.
NDIS Eligibility Check
Do you want to know if you or a loved one is eligible for the NDIS? To qualify for the NDIS, specific criteria must be met.
- Age: Aged between 7 and 65 when applying for the NDIS.
- Residency: To be eligible for disability benefits, you must be an Australian citizen, a permanent resident, or a Protected Special Category Visa holder.
- Disability: If you're looking to apply for disability benefits, it's important to note that you will need to have a long-term disability that significantly impacts your ability to perform everyday tasks.
Once you have confirmed that you meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply for the NDIS. The NDIS application process involves completing an access request form and providing evidence of your disability. You may also need to attend an NDIS planning meeting with Prime Haven to discuss your goals and the support and services you require.
It's important to know that meeting the requirements for NDIS doesn't necessarily mean you'll be approved. Our team carefully assesses each application, considering the impact of the disability on daily life and the necessity of the requested support. We understand the significance of this process and aim to make unbiased and well-informed decisions.
